Head coach – Forrest Mazey
2021: 13-1
After reaching the Class 5A championship finals, the Buffaloes have focused their game plan to claim the gold ball in 2022. VYPE Top 100 selection Erik McCarty (6-3, 200, Sr.) will lead the charge for the herd this fall after a record setting performance during his junior season. Already committed to the University of Oklahoma, McCarty rushed for 2005 yards and 38 touchdowns averaging 9.9 yards per carry in 2021. With opponents eyes focused on McCarty, the Buffs will also employ the skills of Dakota Moton (6-0, 180, Sr.) who gained 847 yards a year ago and newcomer Chaz Bradley (5-11, 185, Sr.) as explosive ground game threats. Head coach Forrest Mazey enters his fourth season and will turn to Caden Lesnau (5-11, 170, Jr.) or Lance Stone (6-2, 220, Jr.) to step into the prime time lights at quarterback. Despite graduation losses hitting the Buffs receiving group hard, Mazey remains confident in the air attack abilities with Elijah Chatman (6-2, 180, Jr.) and Ethan Watkins (5-9, 165, Jr.) expected to be primary targets. The up-tempo offense will once again be powered by an offensive line with size and strength including the abilities of Sean Woods (6-0, 275, Sr.), Kasen Whiteley (5-11, 255, Sr.), Zach Rogers (6-3, 275, Jr.) and Conner Fields (6-1, 275, Sr.) to control action at the line of scrimmage. “There’s no secret about what we do offensively, especially when Erik gets his hands on the football, but we’ve got other playmakers that will create highlight reel moments too,” said Mazey, “and with the big guys up front, we can be balanced running and throwing the ball.”
