McAlester Softball Character Counts – Casey Woods – Presented by Sam Wampler’s Freedom Ford

Casey Woods began playing softball when she was five years old. Currently Woods is a sophomore at McAlester and plays second base, third base, and shortstop for the Lady Buffaloes. Over the course of her career Woods has enjoyed the friendships she has been able to form with teammates and said that the relationships built through softball is her favorite opportunity the sport has provided.

Woods loves the little moments she gets to share with her teammates off the field.

“This season has made me feel a lot closer to my team,” Woods said. “My favorite memory is probably the bus rides back home from games whenever it’s late.”

Softball has also provided many valuable life lessons that Woods will carry with her for the rest of her life.

“I’ve learned from softball that it’s important to be able to pick yourself up when you’ve made a mistake,” Woods said. “As long as you’re able to learn from your mistakes.”

Woods also appreciates the support she receives from teammates and does her best to bring a positive attitude to the clubhouse. She also knows that it’s important in team sports to look out for one another and be supportive of teammates and always give effort.

“You have to know that your teammates will always have your back,” Woods said.

Woods thanks her family and friends for teaching her solid values that have helped shape her into the person she is today.

“My mom is my role model because she’s been such a positive influence in my life and taught me how to be strong during tough times,” Woods said. “She was always that person I could talk to about anything and she’d always understand and give me the best advice.”

In the classroom Woods said her favorite subject is biology and after high school she would like to attend the University of Oklahoma where she wants to study and work toward becoming a nurse.
