At the age of 17, Landen Ragan decided he wanted to serve his country and he wanted to do it in his home state of Oklahoma. Ragan did not waste his time looking into other branches during the recruiting process, he knew the National Guard was where he wanted to serve.
“The recruiting process was a little over my head, but it was explained really well by my recruiter so I could understand it,” said Ragan.
Ragan has completed his basic training and is attending AIT (Advanced Individual Training) this summer.
The former McAlester golfer said he is serving with a local unit and is excited to get his career underway.
“I am serving with Charlie Company 279, and I will be serving as an infantryman,” said Ragan.
As a student at McAlester High School, Ragan played golf from his sophomore to senior year and is looking forward to the opportunity to attend college this fall.
“My plan for college is to go to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond to study computer engineering and criminal justice,” said Ragan.
Ragan offers this advice to any student considering military service. “My advice would be that it’s an awesome opportunity to serve your country and is great to take up that offer, which comes with great benefits. There are tons of jobs in the National Guard. Just make it as fun as possible and remember why you joined to help motivate you through basic training,” said Ragan
