McAlester’s Natalia Rosales – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by RibCrib

By Payton Moody
Natalia Rosales is a dedicated member of the McAlester High School cheer squad. Rosales’ journey is one of hard work, passion, and unwavering commitment.

Coaches make an impact on all players, and Rosales is no exception. “My favorite coach throughout my career is undeniably Kacyn Haney,” she said. “She’s not just about improving the team; she genuinely cares about us individually. Coach Haney has been my rock through tough times, teaching me the importance of fighting for what I want.”

In cheerleading, the bond between teammates is crucial, and Rosales holds her team in high
regard. “I deeply admire and appreciate every member of our cheer squad,” Rosales said. “We’re more than just teammates; we’re a family. Our unity and support for each other make us an unstoppable force.”

When it comes to favorite teachers, Rosales remembers Ms. Jernigen, her 11th-grade history teacher. “Ms. Jernigen cared about each student’s well-being,” she said. “She not only imparted historical knowledge but also life lessons that will serve me well in the future.”

Preparation is vital in cheerleading, and Rosales has been hard at work. “During the off-season, I’ve dedicated time to self-improvement,” she reflected. “I’m focusing on what’s best for me in the upcoming season, striving to be as prepared as possible.”

Cheerleading has taught Rosales valuable life lessons. “Cheerleading teaches us that not everything comes easy,” Rosales said. “To achieve your goals, you must invest time and effort. Bad days are part of the journey, but they serve as motivation to excel in life.”

When asked about her most anticipated matchup, Rosales mentions the state competition.

“Competing at OSDTDA and bringing back our reputation is a thrilling prospect,” she said. “State competitions are where we shine as a team, and we’re eager to make everyone proud.”

Beyond high school, Natalia Rosales has her sights set on a promising future. “After high school, I plan to attend the University of Central Oklahoma to study Chemistry – Health Science and become a registered nurse.”
