McAlester’s Seth Gilliam – Golf Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst McAlester

A rising star in the golf world is McAlester High School student Seth Gilliam. Seth is rapidly establishing a name for himself on the course thanks to his love of the game and desire to play at the top level.

What motivates Seth to play golf is the unwavering support and encouragement he receives from his community. “Most of the town see’s something in me and they helped me become who I am right now,” Seth said. “Being the best and competing against the best in the state and most definitely in the world” is what drives him to excel.

Seth draws inspiration from a multitude of role models, including his parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches and the members of his local country club. “They help me see the game of golf and teach me so much outside of the sport on a regular basis.”

While Seth has achieved notable success throughout his career, including several top finishes in tournaments, he remains focused on his ultimate goal: to become the best golfer in McAlester High School history and secure victories at the state level, both individually and as part of the team.

When it comes to competition, Seth doesn’t single out any particular school. “I don’t go after a certain school to beat, I go after all of them,” he said. However, if pressed to choose, he sets his sights on Cascia Hall’s team, eager to take on formidable opponents.

In practice, Seth values the camaraderie and challenge provided by his teammates. “I enjoy practicing with all of my teammates,” he said, recognizing the importance of teamwork and collective effort in his development as a golfer.

As Seth looks ahead to the future, he remains active in his community, participating in his youth group at the Methodist church on Wednesdays. With aspirations to play college golf and ultimately earn a PGA Tour card, Seth is determined to continue his journey towards success both on and off the course.

Above all, Seth Gilliam strives to represent those who have supported him and helped him along the way. “I want to be remembered as a good civilian of McAlester.  If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here.”
