McAlester’s Wilson Allford – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Kennedy Eyecare

Wilson Allford, a sophomore at McAlester High School, showcases his passion for baseball as both a pitcher and outfielder. His drive to excel in the sport stems from a deep-seated motivation to secure a spot as a starter on the varsity team and contribute to its success: “I am motivated to become a starter on varsity and help bring success to our team.” Highlighting his sources of inspiration, Wilson acknowledges his parents. “Clint and Yvonne Allford have always supported and encouraged me in everything I do.” He also credits past and present coaches for their invaluable contributions to his development as a player. “Past and current coaches have given their time to help make me and my teammates better,” Wilson said.

Reflecting on his academic influence, Wilson attributes his growth to his Spanish teacher, who is also his mother. “My Spanish teacher, Yvonne Allford, who also happens to be my mom.”

He underscores the importance of consistent training and conditioning in his sport. “Training throughout the whole year, working on conditioning, lifting weights, arm strength training and hitting in the cages are contributions to my success in my sport.”

Wilson reminisced about a pivotal moment in his baseball career, sharing, “My first varsity appearance against Muskogee” as his highlight moment.

Wilson approaches each game with a determination to overcome past defeats. “Any team that we have lost to in the past. Getting revenge.” Wilson also values the learning opportunities provided by his interactions with upperclassmen: “Working with and learning from the upperclassmen,” has helped him achieve new heights in baseball.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Wilson is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), emphasizing his commitment to growth and character development. Looking ahead, he expresses aspirations to earn a baseball scholarship and pursue higher education. “I want to work hard enough to get a baseball scholarship and go to college.”

For Wilson, representing McAlester High School on the baseball field holds profound significance. He believes in fostering a sense of pride and unity within his school and community. “Bringing a sense of pride to your school and community after each win and having a successful season.”
