Zac Rogers

By Payton Moody

At the heart of the McAlester Buffaloes football program, one player’s name stands out—Zac Rogers. A senior tackle, guard and defensive end, Roger’s unwavering dedication and versatility make him a standout force on the gridiron.

When asked about his favorite coaches, Rogers’s response reflects his respect for guidance and mentorship. “My favorite coach throughout my career is a tie between Coach Newberry and Coach Stone,” he said.

Team dynamics play a crucial role in a player’s athletic success, and Rogers credits teammates Malachi Wrice and Jayden Shumway for their unwavering support and motivation. “They are constantly pushing me to get better,” he said, highlighting the camaraderie that fuels his drive.

In the classroom, Rogers’s favorite teacher, Mrs. Smith, made a lasting impact on his academic journey. Her influence extends beyond the curriculum, shaping his outlook and approach to learning.

Preparation is key, and Rogers’s off-season regimen demonstrates his commitment to excellence. “I have been attending camps and private workouts to improve my footwork and hand placement,” he said.

Beyond the field, the lessons learned through football have seeped into Rogers’s daily life. “Football has taught me to be patient and analyze my surroundings,” he said.

Memories etched on the field often become cherished treasures. For Rogers, the entirety of the Buff experience—the camaraderie, the challenges, and the triumphs—stands out as his favorite memory. “I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world,” he said.

As a senior, Rogers’s goals for the season are clear and ambitious. “I would love to make all-state and for our team to win at the highest level possible,” he said.

Looking ahead to matchups, Rogers is eagerly anticipating his final; season as a McAlester Buffalo. “I’m super excited for Del City and Coweta because they are the best teams we are going to face this regular season, and I am excited for the competition,” he said.

Post-high school aspirations for Rogers extend beyond the field. “After high school, I am going to go get my business degree and work for my family business,” he said, demonstrating his forward-thinking mindset and determination to excel beyond the gridiron.
