MCALESTER BUFFALOES
Coach: HOLLYE JERNIGEN
OUTLOOK
McAlester will be in a transition this season under first-year head coach Hollye Jernigen.
The Buffaloes, who went 9-19 last season, return several experienced pieces. “We are looking to rebuild this year. We have a core group of upperclassmen returning, and a handful of freshmen that we are looking to that will make an immediate impact for us,” Jernigen said. “Our returners are led by all-district player, Casey Woods who is a VYPE TOP 100 player, first baseman Brook Weiher, a four-year starter that Jernigen calls who Jernigen calls an anchor for the Lady Buffs on offense and defense, junior pitcher Shylie Mason, and third baseman Madi Ayers.
“Shylie is the type of player that most coaches look for. She is a tireless worker and
competitor for us. She does a great job in the circle for us, and never gets a ton of credit for carrying the majority of that load,” Jernigen said. “Madi is a great student in the classroom. She is a kid you know you can always count on, no matter the situation. She is going to handle it correctly,” Jernigen said.
Jernigen will rely on utility player Ambree House and shortstop Rylan Lesnau to contribute as freshmen.
“Ambree will be entering her first year of high school, but we are looking for her to make immediate impacts at the plate in the field,” Jernigen said. “Rylan is a natural athlete with a lot of range at SS. We look for her to make some huge plays for us this year”.
Other seniors on the roster include Kamryn Wilket (OF/C) and Lyli Perez (OF). Avery
Alberson (OF) and Audree Doney (P/1B) will contribute as juniors. Sophomores are Kynlee Semeski (OF) and Trinitie Williams (OF), and other incoming freshmen include Emerson Hollis (MI), Sam Shaffer (P), Chevie Dotson (P/OF), Bailey Caldwell (OF), Jordyn Washington (OF), Koral Coy (OF) and Taylor Williams (OF).
