Savanna’s Kinyon Burge – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst McAlester

From the small hallways of Savanna High School emerges a multi-talented student-athlete, Kinyon Burge, whose dedication has set him on a remarkable journey of triumph and growth. Though he moved to Savanna in the eighth grade, Kinyon feels great admiration for those that have taken him under their wing and gave him the confidence he needed to be successful in athletics and academics. 

Kinyon’s passion for sports ignited at a young age, deeply rooted in his family’s baseball legacy. “I started playing baseball at three years old. My dad and uncles played baseball for Crowder and were very successful,” Kinyon shared, underscoring the familial inspiration that fueled his sporting ambitions.

Drawing inspiration from NFL star Baker Mayfield, Kinyon embraces a fearless mindset akin to his idol. “Baker Mayfield, because he wakes up feeling dangerous. I like his confidence and drive!” he mentioned, showcasing the importance of self-belief in achieving one’s goals.

Juggling the demands of academics and athletics, Kinyon meticulously organizes his schedule to excel both on and off the field. “I make sure I complete all my work on time and maintain good grades. You have to make the grades to continue onto college,” he emphasized, exhibiting his unwavering commitment to his education and athletic pursuits.

Reflecting on his journey, Kinyon cherishes the camaraderie and life lessons gained through teamwork. “My teammates are my family. Sports teaches discipline, responsibility and character,” he remarked, nodding to the profound impact of unity and perseverance in his personal growth.

As Kinyon sets his sights on collegiate track and field, he credits coach Matt Murdaugh for nurturing his athletic goalsand instilling invaluable life skills. “Coach Murdaugh has coached me in all sports since I came to Savanna in eighthgrade. He teaches us to be respectable young men,” Kinyon expressed gratefully, crediting the mentorship that has shaped his athletic journey.

With an unwavering spirit and a bright future ahead, Kinyon Burge stands as inspiration for the Savanna Bulldogs, poised to leave his mark on the track and beyond.
