“Superman”…more powerful than a locomotive, faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound…while these descriptive references were used to define the fictional superhero, the accomplishments of Jared McIntosh on the baseball diamond, basketball court or running track as well as excellence in the classroom are worthy of giving the 2021 senior similar recognition.
The approach to success for McIntosh is simple.
“If you’re going to do something, do it right,” replied McIntosh when asked to explain his approach to day-to-day demands. “I believe that if you do things right and to the best of your ability, good things will come your way both in sports and in life. I try to do the little things right and keep a positive attitude no matter what happens.”
No matter if he’s pitching, playing shortstop or catcher, it’s doing things the right way that draws McIntosh praise from his coach.
“Jared has been a starter since his freshman year. His results speak for themselves on the mound, in the field or at the plate,” explained the Stuart baseball coach Trent Homer. “He’s the heartbeat of the team through his leadership on an off the field.”
On the basketball hardwood, McIntosh started four seasons and played a role in the Hornets reaching the state tournament in 2020 and recently was named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association Class A Boys All-Star by class east squad.
“Jared scores and he plays incredible defense,” said coach Wes Langley. “His unselfish style of play sets up his teammates to score with his assists making us a better team.”
And, to no one’s surprise, McIntosh excels when running cross-country and track including his favorite events 4×100 relay as well as the long jump.
“Jared is my first athlete to compete in cross-country and track & field all four years of his high school career and has recruited other athletes to the sport by his examples of effort and leadership,” explained coach NaDenna LaVarnway referencing the team-first efforts of McIntosh. “He does his best to help his team earn maximum team points. He’s offered to run the mile just to help us improve our team score.”
With a 4.22 GPA, McIntosh has set the curve for the Hornets Academic Pursuit team while anchoring the Hornets winning Academic State Champion team honors in cross-country the last two years.
“Jared is a young man of few words that has proven himself to be of excellent character,” LaVarnway said with conviction and pride in McIntosh.
Above all the numbers and averages, it’s the leadership that matters most to McIntosh and the ability to make things better than when he started.
“Being responsible and a being a team player is part of leadership and that’s what’s most important to me. I want my legacy to be that I did things right and to the best of my ability.”
