Broken Bow 2023 girls golf preview – Presented by Pine Cellular

Sophomore Bevin Strawn is one of multiple underclassmen looking to settle into her rhythm on Broken Bow’s green golf team this spring.

“We have a very young team this year with a few veterans,” Broken Bow head coach Mollie Wallis says. “They are eager to work and looking forward to the new season.”

Strawn, Wallis says, “is the player that you want at practice.”

“She is always in a positive attitude, which is very contagious,” Wallis says. “She is nonstop encouraging even if she is not having her best day. Bevin leads by example when it comes to being self-disciplined with our practice drills.”

Mazie Sherell, also a sophomore “is starting to find her stride” in her second season playing golf.

“Our first day of practice consisted of learning how to hold a club. This year, our first day was ‘play nine holes so we can see our starting point,'” Wallis says. “She is learning where she can save strokes and has big goals in mind for this season. She is planning on shooting a new personal best 18 holes this season.

“[Sherell’s] mindset is what a coach wishes all their players had,” Wallis says.

Junior Bridgette Kelly is one of few veterans returning experience for the Savages.

“Bridgette is coming into her third season with the team. She understands our routine and procedures. She is always at practice, communicates the areas she is struggling to improve on, on-time, never misses a beat,” Wallis said. “She understands that she’ll need to put in some extra work to keep her top position on the team with her younger teammates right behind her. . . I am very excited to see how her season plays out with this kind of work ethic.”
