Broken Bow Savages Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Evan Smalling State Farm

Coach: Toby Bean

21-22 Record: 9-16

The Lady Savages of Broken Bow head into the new season with lots of talent returning from last year’s team. They kick off the season in December by hosting the Savage Classic Festival and are looking forward to a great year. Head coach of the Lady Savages Toby Bean said that the team has four of five starters back and another who played significant minutes last year and started at times. “We were made up of mostly freshmen and sophomores last season,” Bean said. “This season we will still have a relatively young group with only two seniors and three juniors. I expect big things from this group of girls. They work extremely hard and we are excited for the upcoming season.”

One of those seniors is Molly Rogers (5-10, Sr.) a small forward that stepped up in a big way last year as a junior. Rogers did an outstanding job leading by example and led the team in every statistical category and has a good chance to do the same again this year. Even in games when Rogers isn’t scoring she provides great leadership for the younger players on the team and sets the tone for the Lady Savages.

Raylee Gaston (5-8, So.) is one player to keep an eye on this season after averaging around 11 points and six rebounds as a freshman. Coaches expect Gaston to continue to improve all aspects of her game and produce big numbers this season and the next several years. Haylie Brantley (5-5, So.) faced a tall task last year as a freshman in the starting point guard position but stepped up to the challenge and did a phenomenal job. With a year of experience under her belt coaches expect the game to come to her more easily. Coaches expect a great year and career ahead of her.

Natali Martinez (5-6, Jr.) leads by example as one of the few upperclassmen on the team. “Natalie is the type of player every coach wants,” Bean said. “She shows up, puts in the work, and never complains. She is the type of player that only a coach notices because she doesn’t do anything flashy but she is always in the right spot and doing whatever job she is supposed to be.”

Other players to look for include: Cheyenne Moore (5-4, Sr.), Kennison Camp (5-10, Jr.), Michel Perez (5-5, Jr.), Jaxi Glasson (5-5, So.), Kaiden Jordan (6-0, So.), Haylie Smith (5-6, So.), Avery Skelton (5-7, So.), Miley Trent (5-6, So.), Noelia Sanchez (5-6, So.), Katie Rogers (5-8, Fr.), Aubrey Hightower (5-7, Fr.), Amiya Whitfield (5-7, Fr.), and Brooke Evans (5-6, Fr.).
