Idabel’s Chloe Farley – Academic Team Spotlight – Presented by Mandy Knowles Shelter Insurance

Chloe Farley, a determined sophomore at Idabel High School, has etched her academic journey with the ink of courage and curiosity. Freshman year, a juncture marked by new beginnings and the daunting prospect of making connections, witnessed Chloe stepping into uncharted territory—joining the academic team at the urging of her aunt. A decision that not only broke the ice of unfamiliarity but also set the stage for a journey of self-discovery.

Reflecting on her first meet, Chloe shares a pivotal moment that resonates with the sweet taste of personal triumph. Faced with a two-point deficit, she seized the lightning round, contributing a crucial answer that fueled the team’s victory.

Preparation for academic competitions becomes a strategy with randomness. Chloe unravels the mysteries of past questions, recognizing the cyclic patterns that form the crux of her study routine. “The academic team has helped me acquire more knowledge, of course, but it’s also helped me become more confident in myself, as well as helped me make great, lasting friendships,” Chloe reflected.

Yet, the journey is not devoid of challenges. Chloe confronts the fear of being wrong, a sentiment familiar to many. The solution—an impulsive buzz-in, a leap of faith into the realm of uncertainties.

Balancing the demands of the academic team with other school activities becomes an everyday part of Chloe’s schedule. Mondays are reserved for practices and meets, a deliberate arrangement to manage her commitments seamlessly.

With big aspirations, Chloe offers advice to aspiring academic team enthusiasts: “Focus on the topics that interest you; you can’t know everything, and that’s okay.” The unpredictable nature of quiz bowl questions lends itself to the unpredictable journey of life—an acceptance of not knowing it all.

Chloe envisions a future where she attends a prestigious university, immersing herself in the study of neuroscience. The ambition extends to medical school, where she aspires to become a neurologist, delving into the intricacies of the human brain.
