There are a wide variety of extracurricular activities that high school students have the opportunity to be a part of. Most people immediately jump to sports, but there is also band, choir, FFA, FCCLA, and many clubs and groups. Lauren Courtney is involved in two groups that she enjoys a lot.
“I was a member of the Idabel Warrior Pride Marching Band and the Poptime Show Choir,” she said. “I loved being a part of both of them, but the choir was definitely like a family. We all argued about silly little things but at the end of the day, we worked very well together.”
Lauren is a member of the Class of 2022 at Idabel High School. She served as the drum major for the band and she was an alto section leader and choreographer for Poptime. As a student at Idabel, she was also a member of a number of other clubs including the Key Club, the National Honor Society, the student council, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and the Junior Historic Heart of Idabel.
While she has put in a lot of hard work to get to where she is, Courtney also knows that she could not have done it on her own.
“It has taken a lot of practice to be where I am today,” she said. “And also a lot of lessons with my music teacher, Mrs. SaeLim. My parents are my biggest motivation because I know what they expect from me, and that’s my best. And my sister has always been my number one role model and someone that I have always looked up to.”
Though she has had some great moments during her time in music and in the band, there are a couple of accomplishments that she is the proudest of.
“I would have to say that making the Oklahoma Choral Directors Association and Oklahoma Music Educators Association All-State Treble choirs are two really great groups to be included in,” she said.
Now that she is a graduate, Lauren plans to attend Oklahoma State University in the fall to obtain a degree in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Vocal Music.
