Idabel’s Waylon Phillips – Presented by Mandy Knowles Shelter Insurance

Idabel High School junior Waylon Phillips is a dedicated athlete. Waylon plays both football and baseball for Idabel High School. For football, Waylon plays 3 different positions- Quarterback, Linebacker, and Safety. For baseball, Waylon plays Pitcher, Catcher, and Middle Infielder.

Waylon is proud to play for Idabel. Waylon proclaimed, “It means everything to wear Idabel across my chest when I play sports. I wear it with pride. I have grown up here my whole life, and I have always wanted to be an Idabel Warrior. There is no place I would rather be.”

Waylon respects his teammates: “I do not have a teammate that I do not appreciate. They are all my brothers.” Waylon elaborated, “I enjoy working against Ravian Larry. He has been my teammate for 8 years and we have always been competitive and hard on each other.”

When asked what motivates Waylon the most, Waylon stated, “Competition motivates me; I will work to be the best.”

Waylon looks toward family, and school for inspiration. Waylon stated, “My parents are my biggest influence. They sacrifice a lot just for me to be happy, and they push me to be better every day.”

“A coach that influences me most is Seth Lorraine. He taught me that I can give more than just 100%. He pushes me every day.”

Asked about the biggest highlight moment of his athletic career, Waylon chimed “It was during my sophomore baseball season. I hit a solo home run, and a grand slam in back-to-back innings against our district opponent.”

Of all teams he has played, beating Hugo was the most satisfying. Waylon explained why: “Only because of the trash talk.”
