McCurtain County Sports Zone

Q&A with Smithville’s Kyler Pollard – Presented by Pine Cellular

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Kyler: Baseball has taught me several things throughout the years I have played, but the most important one is to never give up and always look for the bright side of any situation you ever find yourself in.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Kyler: My favorite part about representing my school in athletics is that there are so many people there who look up to you when you’re on that field. You can hear cheering from the stands and it’s just an all-around great feeling when you and the guys are doing good and showing everyone what you do out there.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Kyler: “Never be scared to fail. Failure is part of everything, and after you fail you will always find the correct way.”

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Kyler: My favorite part about being on my team is that the guys and myself have grown so close through the years and know each others’ strengths and how to help that person do their best in every aspect of the game.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Kyler: My favorite teacher is probably Mrs. Aleshire, my seventh and eighth-grade math teacher. I struggle with math and really struggled then, but she would always find a way to help me better understand the problems and help me get through them.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Kyler: My dad inspires me a lot and helps me through everything I face. He is the one who brought me to the game of baseball and help me fall in love with it and I am forever thankful for it and everything else he has done for me.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?

Kyler: My favorite memory is when I was 13 and got put on an All-Star team and we made it to the World Series in North Carolina.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Kyler: James Estep has probably left the biggest impression on me, and I respect him a whole bunch. He has shown me several ways to overcome obstacles in baseball. I am thankful that I was blessed with a good teammate like him to play with.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Kyler: If I could go anywhere for a summer vacation, I would definitely go on a cruise to Mexico and go snorkeling around the reefs out there. I would also bring my brother with me.
