Valliant’s Baylee Weatherford – FFA Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma AgCredit

Valliant High School junior Baylee Weatherford is a varsity cheer captain, National Honor Society secretary, class treasurer and a member of the shooting sports team.

If that wasn’t enough, Weatherford also finds time to be an active member of the FFA chapter.

“I got involved with FFA my freshman year. My sister Raeghan, and dad both were heavily involved in FFA in high school, so they encouraged me to join too,” said Weatherford.

Showing animals in FFA is just one of the things Weatherford enjoys about the program. “I show market wether goats. Getting to meet so many new friends is what I enjoy the most.

At every event we go to I get to meet people from all across the state and I’ve gained so many friends,” said Weatherford. “I currently serve as the chapter secretary and I’m on the show team, livestock judging team, and the two-time state championship winning cattle handling team.”

Like FFA, being a member of the cheer squad is something that brings Weatherford a lot of pride in her school and teammates.

“My favorite part of cheer is our competition season, although it’s a stressful time we all work so hard and when our hard work pays off at competition and Mrs. Coulter is proud of us it’s so rewarding,”

Weatherford said her sister has been a big influence in her life despite how different they are.

“My sister Kalyn is my biggest role-model and supporter. We have very different interests, I cheer and do FFA, and she played softball and basketball. Although we’re so different she always supports me no matter what and she has influenced me to go into the nursing field like her,” said Weatherford.

After high school Weatherford said she plans to attend Murray State College and work towards becoming a nurse. As for other students who may want to try FFA, Weatherford had this to say.

“Don’t be scared and just go for it. There are so many amazing opportunities, friendships, and memories to be had if you just jump in and embrace it.”
