Clancy Trapp plays baseball and basketball for the Valliant Bulldogs. He enjoys playing alongside his teammates and working hard to be the best that he can be. While he works hard, he does have two baseball players that he looks up to.
“Nolan Ryan and Pete Rose are two of my favorite baseball players,” he said. “They played with grit and that is an honorable thing. I am thankful to Valliant school and my coaches for the support they give me. To be my best, I give everything I have every time I step out onto the field. I also work hard in practice and off-season, but that is what it takes to compete. For me, it’s not about being successful, it’s about competing during every single pitch and every single possession, that’s where the success is found.”
Trapp, a junior, plays pitcher for the baseball team and guard for the basketball team. He says that his motivation comes from being the best that he can be.
“My ability to play the game right is what motivates me to get better,” he said. “If I’m not getting better and not playing to the best of my ability, I’m doing a disservice to the game. The sport doesn’t owe me anything, I owe it.”
The teammates that he plays alongside have done a great job of helping Clancy become the baseball and basketball player that he is today.
“We have a great group of guys,” Clancy said. “We push one another to be better every single day. Every member of the team has a role to play, no matter how big or small. As for our opponents, there is not one particular one that I enjoy winning against more than anyone else. I like playing against the teams and athletes who are talented and exceptional.”
Throughout his career, he has been a part of some really good games. But he says that his favorite ones are those nail biters that go down to the last out.
“My favorite games are those close ones where it comes down to who has the most grit. Those are highlight moments for me.”
