Wright City’s Madison Carter – Presented by Pine Cellular

Junior Madison Carter certainly did her part on the floor as the point guard for the Lady Lumberjax this season averaging 20 points and eight rebounds a game while joining the 1000-point club for her career.

But it’s her leadership of this year’s team that has stuck with coach Misty Haley.

“She’s definitely our team leader. This year she assigned the upperclassmen an underclass player to mentor and she has a couple herself. She’s done a fabulous job of being a role model for them,” Haley said. “She was a huge factor in our program’s success this year from rebounding to scoring to creating opportunities for others, she was big.”

Getting into basketball was probably always in the cards for Madison.

“I had cousins and uncles that played, and my family is big into basketball. I started playing when I was around six and started playing AAU ball in sixth grade. Playing tougher competition in AAU and learning how to work around them has helped me become a more dominant player in school ball.”

Her parents have given her a good blue print for her success as a team leader.

“My parents have always been my role model. They help me when I’m down and they critique me after my games and always encourage me and that’s what I try to do with my teammates. I think a good leader has to do that and needs to be vocal by encouraging and uplifting your teammates or if they have a bad game, let them know you’ve got their back.”
