McAlester’s Alondra Guadalupe Mercado – Student Athlete Presented by Patriot Chrysler

Alondra Guadalupe Mercado, a dedicated senior at McAlester High School, embodies the spirit of leadership and service as a sports manager for the football and powerlifting teams. Motivated by her passion for sports, Alondra recounts her journey to becoming an integral part of the teams. She cites her “passion for sports, enjoyment of competition, & interest in leadership” as the driving force behind her decision to take on the role. Her commitment to her duties is evident as she describes her typical responsibilities: “doing laundry, making sure things needed for practice are done, cleaning, assisting the boys and whatever else the coaches need.”

In her role, Alondra plays a crucial part in supporting the teams during practices and competitions. “I help set up equipment and water before games, I keep water and Gatorade for them on me, I assist with communication between coaching staff & players, helping with basic first aid and boosting team spirit!” Her dedication and attention to detail contribute significantly to the smooth functioning of the teams, earning her respect and admiration from coaches and players alike.

Reflecting on her experiences, Alondra fondly recalls a standout moment in her journey as a sports manager: winning homecoming queen. This achievement symbolizes not only her involvement and dedication to the team but also the recognition and appreciation she receives from her peers and the school community.

Alondra recognizes the essential skills cultivated through her role as a sports manager. She highlights leadership, communication, time management, decision-making and problem-solving as crucial attributes for success. “I believe I have developed these skills over time,” she asserted, demonstrating her growth and self-awareness.

Looking ahead, Alondra shares her aspirations beyond high school. With a keen interest in mathematics and a passion for education, she plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to pursue a degree in mathematics education. Her goal is to become an Algebra teacher, inspired by her desire to make a positive impact on future generations.

Through her dedication, leadership and commitment to service, Alondra Guadalupe Mercado exemplifies the values of teamwork and community spirit, leaving a lasting impression on her peers and mentors at McAlester High School.
