Wright City’s Skye Gammon – FFA Spotlight – Presented by OK Ag Credit

Skye Gammon was in elementary school when she was first exposed to the 4-H club, which led to her becoming a member of the FFA chapter at school when she was a freshman.

Now a sophomore, Gammon said being part of the FFA has taught her a lot about showing animals.

“My uncle has been a very influential part of my livestock show career and my involvement in FFA. He was an Ag teacher and now he’s a livestock feed specialist,” said Gammon.

Today Gammon enjoys showing her goats and caring for them between shows.

“My favorite part of being in FFA is showing my goats. It has taught me so much responsibility and has made me very competitive. I show doe and wether goats. I started when I was eight and have been doing it ever since,” said Gammon.

Showing is not the only activity Gammon is involved in at Wright City HS.

“I was the president of my junior officer team freshman year. I participate in livestock judging and I am a very big part of the livestock show team. I am a member of the student council, the academic team, and I am on the varsity track team,” said Gammon.

Gammon encourages anyone looking to join FFA to jump and never look back.

“I would say do it and get involved as much as possible. You learn so many life lessons and leadership skills. It is not easy, so get ready to work,” said Gammon.

Being part of the track team is another activity Gammon enjoys doing away from FFA.

“My favorite part of being on the track team is my teammates and the support we receive from our coach. It is such a positive and enjoyable environment,” said Gammon.

The sophomore is planning her future after high school and is thankful for the family she has cheering her on.

“I plan to attend Texas Christian University and major in pre-law. After that I would like to attend law school and then become a prosecuting attorney then a federal judge,” said Gammon. “My parents and my little brother are my biggest influences. They are so supportive of all my many activities and help me so much every day. I couldn’t do it without them.”
