Playing both sides of the ball is common in a lot of sports, but on the football field it takes a special kind of talent. Antwain Bagsby may only be a sophomore, but the Idabel standout plays linebacker and running back for the Warriors. “I fell in love with football at a young age,” Bagsby said. “I love the environment, the excitement, and the energy. What I like the most is having friends and family out there, playing with and building bonds with people. You also can’t forget about the hard hits and contact.”
With the football season just kicking off, Bagsby said the team is looking promising, but they did have things to work on. “We have to improve our offense as a team,” he said. “Our main goals right now are to win districts and make the playoffs. We have a very young team with great players and great coaches, and we will thrive more throughout the season. Our players can be used for different things, and they can play different positions if needed. Our team record might not be the best right now, but we are improving weekly.”
Bagsby said he loves being a younger guy stepping out on the field with and against upperclassmen every week. “It shows me that I can really play,” he said. “I knew I was going to have to step up this year and be a great help to the team. At first it was all new to me, and I was nervous. But I have learned quickly, and I feel like I’ve adapted to the atmosphere. When I finally got the hang of things, I just got out there and got to work.”
